Start with part time internships. It will be unpaid, but get you in the door. See if you can take a course at a local university, just to meet other students and teachers in the field, and start a librairy at home of books for that industry.
Mostly, if you are serious about an artistic career, get out of debt. Seriously. There is nothing that makes people leave such a low paying industry like credit card and other debts.
