He is a registered sex offender and on probation for the next 4 years. He wants to pursue a more serious relationship with his girlfriend and is hopeful of marriage, but he wants to know if his criminal record will affect her career. How would a spouse's criminal record affect an individual's career in forensics? Reply to this Question Share |

There is a chance it may be affected but not up until your friend applies for a job as a forensic scientist. Through college it should be fine though. Look at it this way if you were on the police force would you hire someone with a criminal record to do confidential police work? I know its your friends girlfriend but its still linked. I suggest your friends wait until the girl has finished the course until they get married or move in. On applying for a job as serious as this they do a background check. They take name and addresses of where you have stayed your whole life, your mothers name and maiden name, your fathers name and your siblings. They also check your spouses backgrouns. Its harsh but its to prevent criminals for entering into the police. I doubt it will make a huge deal but there is a chance. Forensic courses take about 4 years to complete anyway so by that time your friend should be off probation and showed they have been rehabilitated.
