What IT job should I take? (two offers)

Hi,

I currently work for a software co. that is expanding into China and India.

I do support programming, so it's not particularly exciting or cutting edge.

Pay is comparatively poor/average by ind standards.

They provide good tech training, however career choices here are limited.

I've got two prospective job offers.

One is for a growing tele-comm co.

I would develop my newly-learned MS .NET skills.

Pay is slightly better.

Other job is with a large, well-known brewing co.

position is DBA/tech analyst (virtually no programming).

so my newly learned .NET skills would die.

Money is very good, good long-term stability/security.

I've got about 15 years before retirement age.

I can either stay here, wait some more or move to one of the above.

Money is important as I've got 3 kids entering teenage years.

Security is important too. (I've been a retrenchment victim twice through outsourcing o/seas).

Any thoughts?

I would suggest the well-known brewing co. it may not be you prefference but if u need the financial stability and money you should choose it for the sake of your 3 kids. While working there if you have any pther places you rather work at that interst you more then thats when you can consider chnaging. Life is about experemintation and you should try it. Who knows what it will bring to your life. Desitions are hard but they need to be made.

good luck

Given that money and security are important to you I would take the DBA/tech analyst role. Having said that, have you considered what you are truly passionate about? If it is software development and you wish to use your .Net skills, why not have the best of both worlds and start up a part-time home based business building web sites using your .Net skills while working full time as a DBA? Who says you have to choose between one or the other? Just a thought :).
