Hey, all, thanks for reading. I've been feeling really frustrated. Right now I am just starting college, but it's not what I want. I have wanted to join the military since I was 15 years old. However, I am allergic to eggs, and this is medically disqualifying. A lot of people tell me to just go ahead and try anyway. My husband is in the military right now (I'm 19, he's 20), and I am extremely jealous. He only joined because he had nothing better to do, but it is something I really want. I'm smart and athletic and I know I would excel. I am so frustrated I could pull all my hair out! What should I do? Should I try to go ahead and join the military despite my limitations? Or should I just accept what's what and move on? Please help!

rcn agony auntYou can do that, but it would be misleading if there is any documentation regarding your limitations. If so, they'll have that information when you take your physical examination.

Have you thought about an alternative that can satisfy at least part of your desire. You could find a job while in school teaching R.O.T.C. or some other military leadership.

try to join. you wont know if you dont try and nobody wants to spend the rest of their life wondering what if and regretting things. the worst they can do is say thanks but no thanks. maybe they'll take into consideration how much you want it, how athletic you are, how much it means to you and how much of an asset you would be. surely that is more significant than an allergy to eggs!
