Salary expectations for a quantitative analyst in the banking sector?

Hello

I'm considering applying for an MSc in 'Financial Engineering' at Birkbeck College (University of London), with a view to a new start as a quantitative analyst in the banking sector (I'm a middle-manager in the civil service at the moment).

What kind of salary could I expect? I'd be 33 by the time I complete the MSc-would my age start counting against me? Where can I find out mroe about the industry and the types of job I would be qualified for?
