In order to become a child counselor you will have to take a varied few courses in education to be able to gain a certification and practice in such a delicate field.
While I have no experience in this field myself, I would like to suggest to you that you contact your local university and ask to speak to a careers advisor, who should be able to point you in the right direction.
The service is usually free and easy to book. You do not usually need to be a member of the university to ask for one of these meetings.
There will be several courses available to you, you just need to pick the right one for you.
I wish you lots and lots of luck on your new path.
