I want to get into office work, receptionist office junior, administrator etc. The thing is, office juniors are expecting young school leavers aged 16ish and say im too old. On the other hand, administrators and receptionists are all looking for good experience!!! Ahhhh! I'm just stuck in a rut...any ideas (apart from work experience because i've asked a lot of companies and they wont take on anyone thats out of school) xx Reply to this Question |

Have you tried looking at local programme centres or training providers?
My partner was in a similar position and went to his local programme centre. They ended up employing him as a volunteer initially but after 5yrs he was their district manager! A close friend had a similar experience, working for a training provider as an administrator and now works as a senior administrator for another company.
If you can let me know the area you live in I'm sure I can pass on some useful contacts.
Good luck. x

Look out for modern apprenticeships...I saw one advertised in my local paper the other day for administration. They train you as well as employ you. You can join one up to the age of 24 years. Ask at your job centre or careers advice centre for details. You could try doing some voluntary sector work - charities often need admin. people for behind the scenes work. It doesn't have to be full-time, and you get tons of experience and a reference. Write lots of nice letters to lots of local charities and see what happens! Another option is to do some classes at night college on computing, typing or database development as technical qualifications will give you the edge when you are applying for jobs.

You need to be more determined than the rest of the bunch, that means applying for job after job after job. Why not take night-classes to gain extra skills such as an IT or typing certificate? It all helps! Don't give up :-)
