Many companies advertise in newspapers offering proof-reading courses but I don't think the certificates have any real credibility - if you are looking for a training course then try to find one that is accredited by a University or College. I don't think you need a particular qualification to be a proof-reading although a degree in English maybe handy! If you want to do this, why not try your hand at freelancing. You could get your own website, send your CV to publishing houses (and ring them up for advice on how to get work), run an advert on ebay offering your services...I know there is a great deal of demand for academic proof-reading particularly amongst international students. However, you have got to be careful about the ethics - there is a difference between proof reading and editing an essay to improve grades. You should get a brochure together showing examples of how you have corrected clients papers. It will give customers confidence.
