writes:Hi, does anyone know how a 30 year old 3rd year plumbing student can find work? One would assume, what with there being a "shortage" of plumbers/heating engineers, that there would be ample opportunities of finding work. However, most if not all vacancies advertised stipulate 3 years+ experience as a minimum requirement, or if I manage to negotiate that obstacle they expect me to work for free! I've tried the agency route, alas, being an honest person I can't manage to find work that way, as I don't fulfill every last ridiculous criteria required for a CSCS card. Eventually I would like to become self employed, however gaining a few years experience from a pro would be preferable. As Im not a freemason, any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated;) Reply to this Question |

Volunteer your services 2 days a week to a pro for 2 months to get a letter of recommendation. Then go to a different pro to do the same. During the rest of the week, work at any paying job you can find to buy as much of your own equipment as possible...best jobs at those at plumbing supply stores.
