Im 18 and have no qualifications or experience. I missed my GCSEs due to personal problems and cant really see a way to getting a career of any kind. Theres things i want to do like be a teacher or a nail technian, but alot of these things seem impossible with little qualifications and experience. I feel like a complete failure and dont know how to go about this.

A male reader, Frank B Kermit Canada +, writes (20 June 2007):

Frank B Kermit agony auntOne word: VOLUNTEER!

The only way to get experience if you can not get school or a job is to volunteer your services in exchange for learning the skills.

volunteer interns sometimes do teh crap work, but they also gain experience and learn on the job.

Set yourself up with a couple of internships. Make sure you set a time limit (no more than 3 weeks full time, or 3 months part time). At the end of it, ask for a letter of recommendation.

You will have something to be proud of when you have a couple of refference (letters of recommendation), and some experience.

Get busy. Being bored is the surest way to feel like a failure.
