I am 16 years old. I only got a few G grades in my GCSE exams (apart from getting a C grade in English) I wondered what my options are?? Are there any college courses which would be suitable and could you tell me more about them? What can someone in my situation do??Do you recommend re-sitting my GCSEs at a college?? Would this be suitable for someone with all G grades?? Can anybody out there please offer me any advice??

PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!!!! MY FUTURE DEPENDS UPON IT!!!!

I would strongly advise re-sitting.

I don't wish to worry you but GCSE's are important and you only get out of it what you put into it.

Most jobs wouldn't even have an interview with you if you have less than 5 GCSE's.

Don't think it's too late, because like you said it, it IS your future after all. Nobody else can do much for you if you're not doing much to help yourself, which obviously you're not doing at the moment.

My brother came over here from Australia after living there with his mum for all his life with no qualifications whatsoever. However, he went to college, worked his socks of and came out with two A's in BTEC and English and a B in Maths. That was only because he put the work in. Now he is studying at John Moores University in Liverpool and is doing really well. He's also really happy.

I hope that is some inspiration to you; you really need to start doing something and bucking up your ideas because at the moment you're going nowhere.

You really do have to work hard; because wou;dn't it be NICE to have a choice of what job you do. Some people work hard enought that they have the world at their feet and can chop and change their ideas about what they're going to do. Unfortunately you didn't do that so you don't have that option and you brought it onto yourself but it isn't too late to get yourself to college and start working.

Otherwise what? Exactly. What?

DrPsych agony auntJust because you failed your exams it doesn't have to be the end of the world (but I accept it may feel bad at the moment). You have to have a frank conversation with yourself - did you fail your exams because you did 0% work for them, were you going through a bad circumstance that affected your exam performance or did you fail them because you lacked interest/ ability in the course subjects. If you think it is the last one then it doesn't mean you are stupid at all - some of the finest minds in the worlds flunked school! My O'levels weren't fabulous but it hasn't stopped me running my own projects at Oxford Uni. If this is you, look into vocational courses - something that interests you. Your local colleges will be running dozens of courses on all sorts of skilled trades and you could end up making far more money and getting much more job satisfaction from such work than a graduate with a degree! Seek out connexions in your local community - they give careers advice to young people for free and can tell you about courses. Go and see a college tutor at your local FE college - college is much better than school for some people as there are a wider range of subjects and more freedom. You could go back and resit - most entry level jobs require 5 GCSEs these days but if you were to get equivalent certificates in BTEC or NVQ that would be ok too.
