writes: Hi all,Well I have been waiting to join the police since i was in year 5. I had to wait 3 years to get in and now I have passed all the theory work and physicals. I have one more physical to go and one more exam. But the problem is I have hurt my lower back and the muscle is tight from my bum to my hamstring. I cant even jog on it with out limping. I have 3 weeks to get ready for this beep test, so I went to see the doctor. He gave me some tablets and it has been 2 and a half days and no real improvement. My friends say if I dont pass I will be kicked out. I am very upset as I dont think I will be ready in time and I want to graduate with my class. I have only ever wanted to do this and if I dont get in I will be devastated. Just need to vent. Any Ideas, on what I should do?thanks for your time Reply to this Question Share |

I'm a police officer myself and sympathise with you as I've just hurt my lower back while in my probation and have a physical exam coming up in full body armour!
I thought I'd be out on my ear but everyone has been really understanding.
I would speak to your force welfare officer, it's completely confidential and you should be able to get an appointment even when you're in your final stages of your application. They should be able to give you some great advice on what to bo.
Any more wuestions please don't hesitate to ask. I've actually been with my force for 4 yrs as a civillian before becoming a copper and one of my closest friends deals with the recruitment side of things. She'll be more than happy to give you some advice if you need it.
Hope that helps

The police (including their recruitment procedures) are bound by the Disability Discrimination Act which means 'reasonable adjustments' have to be made to applicants with chronic medical conditions and disabilities. You should seek the help of the disability representative within your local police force.
You could also try seeking help from a physiotherapist and an osteopath in the meantime.

Don't give up on your dreams, you've got three weeks right. These pills the doctor giving you aren't fast active so they'll take some time. In the mean time you see a specialist doctor or a physio who sees this time of thing all the time. Find out if there is away you could work on your hamstring.
